Good Karma

I received this in an email the other day. I didn't really want to forward it to everyone (Gasp! I won't receive a pleasant surprise in 96 hours!), so I thought I would just post it instead. These thoughts are supposedly "good karma", but whether they are or not, they are great things to think about. Take it for what you will.

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three R's: Respect for self, Respect for others, and Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great relationship.
7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
14. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
15. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

{Karma}: "Through the law of karma, the effects of all deeds actively create past, present, and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to him/her and others." (Definition found on

-Ugly Betty (ABC)
-Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
-America's Best Dance Crew (MTV)
-Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Island (MTV)
-Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations (Travel Channel)
-What Not To Wear (TLC)
-Pushing Daisies (ABC)
-Chuck (NBC)
-The Hills (MTV)
-The Office (NBC & TBS reruns)
-Pysch (USA Network)
-Monk (USA Network)
-Best Week Ever (VH1)
-Soccer (MLS, EPL, La Liga, Serie A, all US National games that are televised)

Writing all this down makes me realize how much TV I end up watching throughout the week. Wow- at least it's something that Neil and I do together. I'm also excited for all the premiers this week. I'm sort of having a hard time because my three favorite shows are on Thursday night and I might have to pick between them. What a tragedy!

Surprise! It's a GIRL!

My best friend-cousin surprised everyone in the family this week by dropping in from Texas for a surprise week-long visit. No one knew she was coming except for her sister Amanda, and she totally and completely surprised her mom and dad. I heard that Aunt Kathy couldn't speak a complete sentence for at least 30 minutes! Crystal also brought with her some incredible news. She is officially have a little girl! After years of trying and crying and in-vitro-ing, Crystal and Dustun are having a baby girl. Now, how flipping amazing is that? I'm excited to be a cousin-aunt (a.k.a. c-aunt) to this bundle of joy. We were able to all go to lunch (Crystal, Aunt Kathy, and my mom) yesterday at Cafe Sabor. It was so great to catch up and laugh, and Crystal seriously looks so amazing! Glowing does not adequetely describe it. I'm so happy for Crystal and she is going to be the best mom. Congrats, girl!

Yummy Cheesecake, Here We Come

This last Saturday, a bunch of us went down to the Cheesecake Factory in Murray. Yum! For those of you who have never been there, it is SO delicious and totally worth the wait and the money. You will probably have an hour wait, give or take, but there is almost every food you could think of to choose from and the cheesecake... let's not get started on the cheesecake. It seriously melts in your mouth. Me, Neil, Mom, Tim, Alex, and Aunt Susan all went to the restaurant. It was a sort of a celebration of both Tim's and Neil's birthday. The food was delicious and we had a great time. Writing about this makes me want some of that cheesecake.

Happy Post-Birthday, Neil!

The funny thing is... I know she got this salad to be healthy. Now that's a salad!

A Weekend Without Labor

Okay, so I know this is kinda late, but I thought I should talk about it anyway. My family has a cabin about 20 minutes outside of Montpelier, Idaho. Every Labor Day Weekend, we all head up there and relax! This year, there were a total of 28 people, 5 dogs, and 2 rabbits. (My brother Tim owns a couple of rabbits that he brought up with him.) The weather was pretty good on Saturday (so I was told) and then Sunday morning it was still sunny. Around 4:00, a storm rolled in and it rained all night and snowed a bit too! It was still fun and as always, there was really good food.

ESM United- Best Team EVER!

So, we play on a family coed indoor soccer team out at the arena. It is SO fun! A new session just started this last Wednesday and we totally dominated with a score of 11-6. It is seriously a blast to play with the family- they are always having a great time, and the best part is when we score. Everyone cheers so loud and it's way too fun. Just to clarify where we came up with the team name- ESM stands for "Essig-Sorenson-Moser" and United because we are definately united! We are also getting t-shirts, and the picture below is the logo that's going to go on the front of them. Pretty sweet! Also, here is a team roster so everyone can know all the amazing players that are playing with us.

Dave Essig (He plays goalie and saves us every week!)

Carly Essig

Neil Essig (The Goal Scorer)

Kami Essig

Tom Essig

Lacey Essig

Landon Essig

Joann Moser

Mike Moser

Jamie Sorenson

Sara Sorenson

Come cheer us on- we play Wednesday nights out at the arena! Go ESM United!

Birthday Time

Neil turned 23 on September 3rd. Happy Birthday friend! He got swedish pancakes for breakfast (which amounts to cups and cups of sugar), and then relaxed at home for most of the day. He did have to work at the arena that night, but the family came out and we were able to have some birthday cake. It was pretty fun and I hope that he had a good day! Andi had a lot of fun playing with the balloons that I had gotten Neil- she kept saying that "They float down!" (There was a weight attached to the end of them. Cute girl!) Anyway, I just wanted to say how much Neil means to me and what a great blessing he is in my life. Happy birthday!
