Busy Saturday

Last Saturday was a very busy one for Neil and I! We started the day off by running a race in Salt Lake. We ran in a charity race for Operation 61, which is an organization that works to stop human trafficking. The race was basically running laps around Liberty Park. Neil ran the 5k, while I ran the 10k with my friend Sly. The weather was a little cold, but felt pretty good once we started running! After the race, we jumped right in the car and drove to Orem to watch some State Cup soccer. Sly and I are coaching a girls team starting in June, so we wanted to see them in action before tryouts. After watching the girls dominate the team they played (I think they won 8-0 or something like that), we stopped by In-N-Out Burger in Orem and ate some of the calories we burned that morning! After driving back home, Neil and I cleaned ourselves up and I got some yummy dessert ready (for the recipe for Chocolate Cheesecake, click here). We got back in the car and drove to Dave & Carly's house, where we met all of Neil's siblings so we could go out to dinner at the Mandarin. Dinner was delicious as usual and it was so fun to be able to hang out with the family! We ended the night by having a quick planning meeting for those of us who are going to Canada this summer, and Neil also received a pretty cool present from Dave & Carly. He was OVERJOYED to receive a soft-serve ice cream maker- we made sure to stop by the store on the way home to get all the ingredients so he could make his ice cream. What a fun and unbelievably busy day!

I Don't Even Know Why I'm Laughing Right Now

WARNING: LONG AND INCREDIBLY INTERESTING POST AHEAD  :)
Neil and I just got back from an extended weekend in Las Vegas. We had the BEST time! We signed up to play in an coed outdoor tournament in Vegas and it was SUCH a blast! A group of five of us left Thursday afternoon, and after a quick stop in Draper at In-N-Out Burger, we were on our way. We had rented a house in east Vegas and after getting to the house, we went to Sweet Tomatoes and watched Neil eat about 27 plates of food. Friday was a day to just wander around and do whatever we wanted, so we went to the soccer fields and played for a little bit before lunch. We met up with some other teammates for lunch at Bahama Breeze, then went back to the house to catch some sun on the patio. Friday was also Edgar's birthday, so we went to Island Sushi for dinner. The sushi was delicious, and of course Neil got the All-You-Can-Eat sushi buffet, and downed 4 rolls and a couple appetizers by himself. We got the whole restaurant to join us in singing Happy Birthday to Edgar, which was fun! After dinner, we went back to the house and sang to Edgar again and ate some birthday cake, then hung out in the hot tub for a little bit. Saturday was game day and we woke up READY to play! We ended up playing three games on Saturday, tying our first game 0-0, winning our second game 1-0, and winning the third 3-2. All the teams we played decided their best form of defense was playing dirty and fouling as much as possible, so we got beat up a little bit. Neil ended up twisting his ankle in the second game, which was a total bummer. Saturday night, we ended up going to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Note to self- NEVER go to the Cheesecake Factory in Vegas on a Saturday night. You WILL spend your entire night waiting to get seated, waiting to order, waiting for your food, waiting to order dessert, waiting to get dessert, and waiting to pay your bill, which might have an automatic gratuity added onto it, even though dinner took almost 2 hours, lol. Oh well, live and learn! Sunday morning, we played in one game and ended up losing to the eventual tournament champions 2-1, which meant we lost in group play and didn't get to go onto the semi's and finals. We ended the trip by having lunch at Pho Saigon 8 (Vietnamese food), which had AMAZING food, and getting frozen yogurt at Yogurtland. All in all, the trip was so much fun and we felt like we got to know people so much better and we had some GREAT laughs. Here are some pics and a list of the most interesting memories of the trip!

SOME OF THE MOST INTERESTING MOMENTS:
1. The Amazon Woman at Caesars Palace. (Seriously, she was probably 7+ feet tall. Riley and Gentrie DID NOT stop giggling about her for about 6 hours.)
2. Riley The Enforcer. No one takes out the girls or guys on our team and gets away with it!
3. Safely making it through Arizona with Edgar "hiding" in the back, lol.
4. Gentrie's dad coming onto the field to confront the guy who almost broke Gentrie's arm. He's another Enforcer.
5. The crappy, dirty Arizona Alliance team losing 5-0 in the semi's. Haha, they stole our spot basically and then got killed. Karma stinks!
6. The referee in our first game cheating for us. (Long story, if you want to hear it, I'll tell ya.)
7. Having to play on a field with broken glass.
8. Losing in the juggling game of DONKEY and having soccer balls kicked at me while I did a donkey impression- I need to get better at juggling, apparently!
9. Eating the best sushi I've ever had, along with the best Vietnamese and frozen yogurt I've ever had!
10. Annika's surprise jokes that no one ever saw coming
11. Riley's treasure hunt to find his girlfriend's car in Pleasant Grove on the way home
12. All the nicknames- Hole, Butterfly, Fun Dip, Flock, Hawk, Esperansa, Judy, Fly, Boy, Scout, and Bambi
13. Greg full-on tackling Sly by accident (good thing she didn't get hurt because she left a Sly-imprint in the ground)
14. Making the decision that watching a heavy-set girl in a short miniskirt walk up the stairs is like a car wreck- you don't want to watch, but you can't look away because you want to see what happens. (Don't worry, she covered up her Britney before anything was seen)
15. The comment of "I don't even know why I'm laughing right now"
16. Playing the best sport in the world with a bunch of my friends and having tons of laughs along the way
